The Retreat is an open plan split level large studio with thick stone walls, lead light windows, and it is furnished with antiques. There is a modern kitchenette and large bathroom.
The Retreat has an eclectic history. It began life as a vehicle shed for a working dairy before being converted into a smithy with forge. When you stand at the bathroom vanity, imagine Mary the Blacksmith standing on the same spot creating fairy horseshoes and cracking bawdy jokes to the delight of the busloads of tourists who came to see her demonstrations.
It was transformed into an art gallery before being remodelled into a bedroom with a basic kitchenette. Rob and Stef spent a year extensively renovating, adding a bathroom and modernising the kitchen. Stef has sourced antique furnishings and rugs which partially cover the original floor.
The queen sized bed is tucked in one corner and does not intrude on the living area with a comfortable sofa and matching chairs. The television has Chromecast and there is complimentary WiFi. There is a large table in the dining area with a smaller study desk. The kitchen contains a fridge, gas hob, microwave, kettle and toaster and there is a selection of teas as well as ground coffee and a plunger.
Reverse cycle air conditioning keeps the room comfortable.
If this room is unavailable, The Studio is our newest addition and is fully self-contained.
